The Most Popular 2025 Reading Challenges on StoryGraph

The StoryGraph is a book tracking platform and it has become an excellent site for hosting reading challenges due to it’s simple interface and ease of use. This is the 2nd year I’m going through all of the challenges hosted there and sharing with you the most popular 2025 reading challenges on StoryGraph (i.e the ones with the most participants). The Most Popular 2025 Reading Challenges on StoryGraph

  1. The StoryGraph’s Onboarding Reading Challenge. The challenge is designed as a low-pressure way to explore the range of features StoryGraph offers. Each of the 6 prompts will guide you to a different part of the app, including the community page, recommendations, and reading challenges.
  2. The StoryGraph Reads the World. The aim of this challenge is to get people picking up books from countries they’ve never read from before, to broaden our reading horizons, and appreciate literature from around the globe.
  3. The StoryGraph’s Genre Challenge. The purpose of our Genre Challenge is to encourage you to read outside of your comfort zone, reach for books across genres you might not normally try, and generally have a great time doing it. There are 10 prompts spanning fiction and nonfiction genres, with some allowing flexibility for both.
  4. The 52 Book Club’s 2025 Challenge. The 52 Book Club’s annual reading challenge is made up of 52 unique reading prompts.
  5. Buzzword Reading Challenge. Each month has a designated word/word theme and you read a book that fits the theme.
  6. POPSUGAR 2025. This is posted on StoryGraph by a fan of the popular of the popular challenge, and there you’ll find all the prompts and book suggestions for each (actual challenge not yet posted).
  7. Buzzword Cover Challenge. Each month read a book that has a COVER element of the reading prompt.
  8. Book Riot’s 2025 Read Harder Challenge. Track the popular reading challenge on StoryGraph here.
  9. The Diverse Baseline 2025. Read a book by a racialized author per month. Choose which book to read each month, as long as it fits one of the prompts below.
  10. Read Good Challenge 2025. Read a book for each monthly theme.
  11. Decolonize Your Bookshelf Reading Journey 2025. This isn’t an ordinary reading “challenge”. This is supposed to be a journey that stretches your reading habits alongside your mindset. This is to experience new genres, authors, communities, and experiences.
  12. Booklist Queen’s 2025 Reading Challenge. Join the reading challenge and read a book a week with the Booklist Queen.
  13. OUABC 2025 Reading Challenge. Pulled directly from the 2025 reading challenge scratch-off as included in the Once Upon a Book Club Up All Night 2024 box, complete as many challenges as you can before the year is over!
  14. 2025 ABC Challenge. Read a book that starts with each letter of the alphabet in the year 2025.
  15. 2025 Reading Glasses Challenge. This challenge includes five book prompts and five activity prompts.
  16. Decolonize Your Shelf Reading Challenge. Read 20 Books by Indigenous, BIPOC and/ or queer authors.
  17. A Year of Goober 2025. Each month, help Ghostie Goober select a flower for their bouquet by reading a book inspired by its meaning. Together, you’ll build a beautiful bouquet (book-quet?) that tells a story as unique as our favourite little ghost.
  18. 2025 HPOOTP-Flourish & Blotts Reading Challenge – The Wizarding Professions Challenge. There are 10 professions with 5 prompts each. Plus we have a bonus profession that has just 2 prompts. As usual, YOU get to set you challenge. So which profession will you choose?! Do you stick with one career, or will you set your sights higher and achieve them all?! (similar challenge here)
  19. BGRT Reading Challenge – 2025. The OFFICIAL BGRT (Black Girls Read Too) Reading Challenge list for 2025!
  20. Around the Year in 52 Books (2025). 52 books for 52 weeks. Each week, members read a book of their choice for that week’s challenge requirement.
  21. Romanceopoly 2025 Challenge. A way to discover new books and authors and catch up on things that have been languishing on the TBR (more -> rules for how to play Romanceopoly).
  22. 2025 Book Lover’s Challenge by Book Girls’ Guide (Official Version). A year of monthly reading prompts related to different aspects of reading that we all love, from browsing the aisles of our favorite bookstore or library to losing ourselves in the world of a story.
  23. ATY 2025. 52 Books for 52 Weeks + Their Anniversary List. This is the Storygraph home for the popular ATY Goodreads group. (similar challenge here)
  24. 2025 Key Word Reading Challenge. Read a book each month with one (or more) of the key words in the title.
  25. #20BooksByBlackFolx 2025 Challenge hosted by @Melanatedreader. Read 20 books written by Black authors.
  26. #ReadLatineLit. A monthly reading challenge to read one book by a Latine author each month of 2025.
  27. #20BooksByBlackWomen Challenge 2025 hosted by Melanatedreader. Read 20 books written by Black Women authors.
  28. Comet Readings’ 2025 Reading Challenge. explore 52 unique prompts to boost your reading habits and diversify your bookshelf with Comet Readings.
  29. “We Are Here” 2025 Trans Reading Challenge. Select books for each category, and they should center on trans and gender diverse characters, ideally from trans authors.
  30. The 2025 #SomethingBookishReadingChallenge. Consider this challenge like a passport for your bookshelf – 24 exciting prompts designed to catapult you out of your reading comfort zone and whisk you around the globe, one page at a time.
  31. Pantone 2025. The only rule is that the cover of the book must match the shade on Pantone’s report, whether the cover is solid or if its just one shade in a multi-colored cover.
  32. 2025 Easy Reading Challenge. Read a book each month following one of the easy prompts provided.
  33. 2025 ICYMI Backlist Challenge by Book Girls’ Guide (Official Version). The In Case You Missed It Challenge includes a year of monthly reading prompts, beginning with books published in 2013 and ending with books published in 2024.
  34. 2025 Read Your Bookshelves. Read a book for the month’s theme.
  35. Randomize(ish) Your TBR – 2025. A fun way to tackle everyone’s long TBR lists! One required and one bonus prompt each month so you can adjust to your reading volume.

  40. Backlog Board of Books. There are 58 prompts (some repeated) to help you pick and read books you already have on your shelves.
  41. 25 Reading Prompts in 2025. Pick a book to read for each of the challenge prompts.
  42. Romance Challenge 2025. Challenge yourself to read books in the Romance genre! These prompts include common tropes within the genre.
  43. Sapphic Reading Challenge. Dive into sapphic stories by reading books for the challenge prompts.
  44. 2025 Motif Reading Challenge. Read a book each month that fits the motif (theme) for that month.
  45. NEW!! 2025 Fantasy Book Challenge. A challenge to explore different tropes, authors, and sub genres within the fantasy genre.
  46. 2025 Speculative Bingo. This challenge has a list of 25 prompts which make up a bingo board. The goal is to complete all 25 prompts by the end of 2025.
  47. 25 in 25 (@FourPawsandaBook). Read a book for each of the 25 reading prompts. Here’s the YouTube challenge announcement.
  48. 2025 Book Voyage Read Around the World Challenge by Book Girls’ Guide (Official Version). A year of monthly reading prompts that guide you around the world. Every month, choose a book set in a specific region of the world based on our prompts.
  49. Romance Con 2025. Prep for Romance Con by reading as many attending authors as you can! Prompts will be added as authors are announced.
  50. 2025 Disability Reading Challenge. This challenge centers intersectionality and diversity within disability representation, and uses the term disability to encompass physical, mental, invisible/undiagnosed, sensory, and psychiatric disabilities.

    Thank you so much for pulling all of these together. I’m gearing up for 2025, and planning to read a lot more, and blog about it as well. These challenges are so much fun!
