May Readathons and Reading Challenges

May 1, 2024

Here’s a look at a few reading events (online) coming up for the month of May.

May ReadaThons & Challenges

Wyrd & Wonder – A month-long celebration of the fantasy genre – fantasy books, movies, tv shows, games, music and anything else genre-adjacent that is grabbing our attention. This year’s theme – because we’re loving picking a theme – is comfort zone. There’s enough hard things in the world in 2024, so we’re focusing on the fantasy that sparks the most joy this year. And check out the beautiful Wyrd & Wonder map created to guide you on your reading journey.

Adult Summer Reading Challenge 2024 – It’s summer reading bingo style!

#AlltheBooksMay24 – share a photo for each daily prompt using the monthly hashtag. Check the hashtag to see all of the photos that have been shared for the challenge. Fee free to post and interact as little or as much as you’d like.

SFF Summer Reading Challenge 2024 – May 1st – Sep. 1st. Explore the speculative genres like science fiction, fantasy, horror, magical realism etc. throughout the summer. Also hosted on Instagram.

Spring Into Love – If you’re in the mood for a little springtime love, you’ve come to the right place! These prompts are intended to be filled by romance books.

Spring Into Horror – If you’re in the mood for a little springtime scare, you’ve come to the right place! These prompts are intended to be filled by horror books.

Book Awards Highlight Spotlight

★ May 01 – Edgar Award Winners. These awards honor the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, television, film, and theater.

☆ May 06 – Pulitzer Prize Winners and Nominated Finalists. Awarded for the highest national honor in print journalism, literary achievement, and musical composition.

★ May 13 – British Book Awards (Nibbies) Winners. The British Book Awards is a celebration of books: it affirms, connects and energises the world of reading by showcasing those who create stories and everyone who plays a role in bringing those stories to life. The Book of the Year Shortlists with 72 titles across 12 categories were announced on Mar. 08, 2024.

What are your reading plans for the month? I’m reading Fantasy all month long as I participate in Wyrd & Wonder.
