How has your week been? What have you been reading lately? I finished The Widow’s Husband Secret Lie, Freida McFadden, a satirical novella which was interesting but I’m not sure if satirical books are for me, and The Guest, Emma Cline, which I inhaled in 1 day … I couldn’t put it down … Now on to the 10+ bookish links I bookmarked recently.

one+ Over at reddit (Books) a user asked What’s a book that completely broke your brain—in a good way? I’m definitely a comfort read girlie, so didn’t think I would be able to answer this one, but scrolling through the comments, I realized The Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents, Octavia Butler totally did this.
two+ Are libraries the next public service to get defunded in the US?
three+ I have the same sentiments in How learning to DNF books enhanced my reading life. I still don’t “DNF many books – to be clear, if I’m not enjoying a book in the first 10 pages or so, I’m quick to reach for another. Those aren’t “DNF (Did Not Finish)” many books, but it used to be that I read ALL books I started no matter what. That’s not how I want my relationship with books to be, as this leads to reading slumps in my case.
four+ I’m looking for an alternative to the Kindle app for eBoooks and came across Eight Best Services to Rent, Buy, and Download E-Books.
five+ Four book logging apps to keep you reading. Do you use any reading timing apps like Bookly?
six+ This DIY Book Sculpture How To is so clever!
seven+ The winner of LitHub’s The Best Villains in Literature Bracket is … “O’Brien, George Orwell’s secret police spy, torturer, and totalitarianism-is-actually-good-for-you explainer.”
eight+ Strong opinion in I’m kinda done with being treated like an idiot by authors. What do you think? Have you read any books where you felt the author was being condescending, or treating the reader like they were daft?!
nine+ 2025 Magical Readathon Spring Equinox is coming up in April. If you haven’t participated before, it takes a bit of pre-planning, so dropping this here early. Also, Apr. 1-30 is 2025 Spring into Horror Readathon.
ten+ Winners of the National Book Critics Circle Awards have been announced, and My Friends, Hisham Matar won for Fiction.
In case you missed it, this week we shared 12 Recommendations for The 2025 In Case You Missed It Backlist Reading Challenge and 4 Fantastic Novels that Take Place in Ireland.
