Bookmarked 2024 Week 37

How has your week been? What have you been reading? I recently finished The School for Good Mothers, Jessamine Chan. It’s a dystopian novel that given the current climate in the US feels a little too realistic. Now, on to the 10+ things I bookmarked recently.

one+ A.I. is staying in the news and NaNoWriMo Organizers Said It Was Classist and Ableist to Condemn AI. All Hell Broke Loose. Several authors have cut ties rather publicly with the organization as a result.

two+ There are so many amazing books coming out in the next few months. Here’s Goodreads Guide to Fall’s New Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Horror Reads and Kirkus Reviews 150 Most Anticipated Books of Fall. Also 8 bookish friends (of Downtime) and authors to share what’s on their Fall reading lists. So many books!!

three+ And for this month, here are the Best books of September 2024, as chosen by the Amazon Editors and 11 Exciting New SFF Books Out September 2024. See anything to add to your reading list?

four+ I am probably snooping on your books. When traveling, which is just about every week lately, I love checking out what my fellow travelers are reading. It’s not as easy with audiobooks and eReaders, but I do take furtive glances and often chat up strangers to see if it’s something I’ve read before, or want to add to my reading list. Do you get a little jolt of excitement when you spot other readers in the wild?!

five+ Are you taking part in RIP XIX this year? From Sep 01-Oct. 31, 2024, read, watch or listen to anything that could be classified as Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Horror, Supernatural. Check in on social with hashtag #ripxix!

six+ I’m putting my list together for RIP XIX and came across Five Horror Books Built Around Female Friendships. I read Dread Nation, Justina Ireland, and loved it.

seven+ Now might also be a good time to check out Never Enough Novels 8 Best Mysteries / Thrillers of 2024 (So Far). I’ve only read Murder Road, Simone St. James, which I agree is outstanding.

eight+ Let’s Discuss: Reading Schedules. Do you stick to the reading queue/schedule you set for yourself?

nine+James Earl Jones passed away recently, and There was no better reader than James Earl Jones. I was deeply affected by Jones’ reading of Frederick Douglass’ 1852 speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?

ten+ Off the BooksWhat are you looking forward to watching this month? Here are some recommendations from She Watches: September 2024.
