How has your week been? What have you been reading? I’m still in the trenches of intense life goings-on so things haven’t been as regular around here, but I did manage to finish Zero Days, Ruth Ware, and it was just what I needed to get back my joy from reading. It’s non-stop action! Now, on to the 10+ things I bookmarked recently.
one+ Libro.fm’s Picks: More of the Best Books of the 21st Century in a rounded up 20 of the best audiobooks below that they think should have made the list. I totally agree with Parable of the Sower, Octavia Butler narrated by Lynne Thigpen – but I didn’t enjoy This Is How You Lose the Time War, Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone.
two+ Barack Obama has released his summer 2024 reading list. Of course James, Percival Everett, is on it (he’s also released his summer playlist).
three+ 13 Troublesome and Bizarre Reading Categories from reading challenges shares some of the the different reading prompts that are hard to determine a book for. I think the weirdest one might be Protagonist is a plant … what do you think?
four+ What Are You Reading Right Now? at Cup of Jo has more than 500 comments with a gold mine of recommendations.
five+ Have you read anything from this list of Mysteries with Victims We Love to Hate? I can recommend Black Cake, Charmaine Wilkerson … I’ve been watching the tv adaptation on Hulu too and loving it so far as well.
six+ Also here’s 5 Underrated Weird Mysteries. There’s a book that’s a murder mystery featuring a sentient mindship who also happens to be a highly successful thief?!! Yeah – I’m adding Seven of Infinities by Aliette de Bodard to my reading list!
seven+ Have you ever chosen a book just because the title looks good to you? I have! And here’s 25+ Books With Intriguing Titles That are Actually Worth Reading.
eight+ For parents, we’re entering back to school season, and I loved seeing all the related book lists pop up like 2024’s Campus Novels and Dark Academia for Back-to-School Season and 25 Best Dark Academia Books to Read: A Challenge for Adults. Have you read any of these?
nine+ The 2024 Hugo Award Winners have been announced. Some Desperate Glory, Emily Tesh, won for Best Novel and Thornhedge, T. Kingfisher, (which I love) won for Best Novella.
ten+ Off the Books – I recently finished watching The Bear (S2 and S3) because of the hype … I don’t really get it. It was aaight … but nothing special in my opinion (but I did enjoy S1). I also watched the horror movie Abigail. Although I love horror books, I don’t watch too many horror movies – and this one was crazy! Lots of blood and gore. What are you watching?
—- Cheers to the weekend and week ahead!
